Series note: Layton can clinch share of Region 1 title with win

About the Vikings: Their only region loss was a 3-0 setback to Davis two weeks ago. The Vikings feature the best scoring defense in Class 5A allowing a meager 8.5 ppg. Sam Graham is Viewmont's leading tackler, and the Viking defense has enough speed to keep up with Layton's vaunted rushing attack. Offensively, five different players have recorded rushing touchdowns, but Chris Larsen is the star of the offense with 14 passing touchdowns this year. Viewmont, however, is one of the lower scoring top-ranked teams in 5A at 21 ppg.

About the Lancers: They own the second-stingiest scoring defense in 5A behind Viewmont at 10.8 ppg. Spearheading that defensive attack is outstanding linebacker Chad Willson, one of the team's leading tacklers. As good as the defense is, Layton's offense is the main attraction. LaVaughn Jackson has nine rushing touchdowns, Gavin Green has 12 passing touchdowns and Matt Putnam has hauled in six touchdown receptions. Willson and James Adams have combined for eight more rushing TDs.
