Percent of retailers caught selling tobacco to minors, federal fiscal year 2006:

• Utah: 8.5 percent
• Kansas: 19.2 percent (highest nationally)
• Arkansas: 2.2 percent (lowest nationally)

1997 average national violation rate: 40 percent
1997 Utah violation rate: 27 percent

Percent of Utah residents who smoke: 9.5
Percent of smokers who have quit or tried to quit in the past year: 47.9
Number of Utah venues that became smoke-free last year: 74
