Dannon foods has donated $30,000 to the Utah Food Bank Services. The grant will underwrite both food and education about healthy foods and fitness activities to 1,000-plus low-income kids and their families.

Food company representatives said they want to contribute to efforts to reduce and prevent obesity, which, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, disproportionately affects low-income individuals.

The Census also reports that one in about 87,000 children in Utah live in poverty and may lack access to nutritious food.
