ST. GEORGE — SkyWest Airlines said Thursday that it was selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation to provide "essential" air services to Cedar City for the next two years.

SkyWest served Cedar City from the time it began business as an airline in 1972 until 2006.

Under the Delta Connection banner, SkyWest will operate two daily round-trip flights between Cedar and Salt Lake City with the 30-passenger Embraer Brasilia turboprop aircraft. SkyWest said it will work with Air Midwest on a transition schedule to start service. Schedules and service-start dates will be announced later.
