PAGE, Ariz. — A helicopter crashed into a houseboat on Lake Powell, injuring one person.

National Park Service rangers said the crash happened Tuesday at Last Chance Bay on Lake Powell. As the pilot was taking off, the helicopter slammed back down into the houseboat.

"It appears the rear tie-down strap was not removed prior to take-off," NPS rangers said in a statement today.

The passenger in the helicopter was flown to a Flagstaff, Ariz., hospital for treatment of injuries. The pilot declined any medical treatment.

Rangers also had to clean up a fuel spill in the lake. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
