Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff's motorcycle crash has helped raise even more money for a memorial for police officers who have died in the line of duty.

The Fall Ride For Fallen Officers has raised more than $53,000 for the proposed memorial at the Utah State Capitol. Backers of the monument said that more money continues to come in after Shurtleff asked well-wishers to donate to the ride instead of flowers.

"This accident was not how I intended to help support the memorial, but I have been touched that so many people have been moved to honor our fallen officers," Shurtleff said in a statement Wednesday.

Shurtleff was injured in a crash last month while practicing for a motorcycle ride to raise money for the memorial..
