Fallen soldier Nathan Barnes of American Fork is the inspiration for a statewide shoe drive that will end Oct. 12.
Dubbed the "Passage to Zarahemla Shoe Drive," shoes are being sought for delivery to Iraq. The drive is being sponsored by Seagull Book, Hearts and Hands for Humanity and Heimerdinger Entertainment.
"Because Nathan loved kids and loved serving his country, we are touched to be part of this project and hope to collect thousands of shoes of all sizes for those in need in Iraq," said Chris Heimerdinger, author of the "Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites" series.
Barnes was killed July 17, 2007, in Iraq. Donations in his memory can be made at any Seagull Book store.
