Online registration site for voting is click away
Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen is trying to make registering easier for county residents. On Monday, she launched a new online voter registration form.
All you have to do is go to www.clerk.slco.org, type in the required information, click submit and then a completed registration form will appear on the screen.
Print the form, sign it, then mail it in and voila, you can vote.
OK, it's not really as simple as that. The clerk will then hold the information the applicant submits on the online form in a secure database until the signed form is received by the clerk's office.
"This feature will save staff time and resources spent re-entering the voter registration data since the information the applicant submits is sent directly to the county's system," Swensen said. "Because an original signature is required, the registration can only be activated once the signed form is received and verified by the clerk's office."
Mail-in voter registration forms are due Oct. 9. After that, forms can be personally delivered to the clerk's office on or before Oct. 22.
All registered voters in Salt Lake County will have an opportunity to vote on the statewide school voucher referendum, as well as other municipal races.
