Impact of Utah's manufacturing sector

Total annual payroll: $4.7 billion, or 12.3 percent of the state economy

Total employment: 117,302, or 10.2 percent of the state economy

Wage level: About 20 percent higher than the state average in 19 major sectors

Other employment: Creates about two times more secondary jobs than the service sector

Exports: Accounts for more than 95 percent of Utah's exports, including refined minerals and extracted energy fuels

Typical company size: 99 percent are small businesses, with an average staff size of 26
