• Pioneer Theatre Company, 300 S. 1400 East (University of Utah), on Oct. 5, noon-5 p.m. for two upcoming productions "The Heiress," being directed by Jack Going, and "The Vertical Hour," being directed by PTC Artistic Director Charles Morey.
Auditions for "The Heiress" will be held in Room 237 and those for "The Vertical Hour" will be in Room 245. Casting for the former includes three men and six women, all adults. Casting for the latter requires one man, in his 50s-60s; one woman, mid-30s; one man, mid-30s; and two college-age students, one male and one female.
For both auditions, Equity-only tryouts will be noon-1 p.m., and non-Equity auditions will be 1-5 p.m. Equity players may sign up for any available open slot. Scripts are available from the PTC business office for overnight checkout. All auditioners will be asked to read from the script. A current photograph and resume are also recommended.
Play dates for "The Vertical Hour" are Jan. 11-26, 2008, with rehearsals running from Dec. 17-Jan. 10. Play dates for "The Heiress" are March 14-29, with rehearsals from Feb. 18-March 13 (www.pioneertheatre.org/about/audition.html).
• The Empress Theatre, 9104 W. 2700 South, Magna, on Oct. 12 and 13 by appointment only (347-7373) for "It's a Wonderful Life," scheduled to run Nov. 30-Dec. 29.
Audition sessions are 7-10 p.m. on Oct. 12 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Oct. 13.
This production requires large ensembles of adult men and women (18 to 60 years of age) and a small ensemble of children, 6-10 years of age. Auditioners should be prepared to sing 16 bars from a Broadway musical. There will also be cold readings of excerpts prepared by the director.
• Draper Arts Council on Oct. 16 and 18, 7-8:30 p.m., in the Little Theatre of Juan Diego Catholic High School, 11800 S. 300 East, Draper, for its Christmas production of Gian Carlo Menotti's hourlong opera, "Amahl and the Night Visitors," playing Dec. 14-15.
A prepared musical solo is recommended but not required. A pianist will be provided, but you may bring your own accompanist or a minus-track CD.
Needed are four adult soloists (bass, bass-baritone, tenor and soprano) and one child soprano (either a girl or boy to play a boy of 9-12 years old), plus singers of all ages for the shepherds' chorus ensemble.
