Utah

VOLLEYBALL: Utah volleyball coach Beth Launiere has been elected president-elect of the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Launiere, in her 18th season at Utah, begins her term on Jan. 1, 2008. She is in her third year as the NCAA Women's Division I representative. Prior to that, Launiere served on the AVCA's All-America committee for five years.

BYU

CROSS COUNTRY: Redshirt freshman Cecily Lemmon was named the Mountain West Conference women's cross country athlete of the week for her second-place finish in Hawaii last week. BYU dominated the race, finishing with seven runners in the top 10, including the first five Cougars placing second through sixth.

GOLF: The Cougars finished 14th in the NCAA Fall Preview Wednesday, where an 8-over-par final round finished off the 304-303-300—907 tournament. Natalia Jimenez, a junior from Bogota, Colombia, led the team throughout the tournament. She finished with a four-day total of 224.

Utah State

WOMEN'S SOCCER: Utah State junior defender Alyssa Lowry netted her first career goal in the Aggies' 1-0 win against Montana on Thursday at the Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field. The Aggies improved to 4-6 overall and are now 2-1 at home. Montana fell to 2-7. The Aggies have a six-day break before battling two instate foes — BYU in Provo on Wednesday and Utah on Oct. 6 in Logan.

Southern Utah

CROSS COUNTRY: The T-Birds will make their third trip to California this season to participate in the UC Riverside Invitational this weekend. SUU's men won the event last year.

SOCCER: The T-Birds, riding a four-game unbeaten streak, plays host to Western Illinois on Friday afternoon in Cedar City.

Utah Valley

SOCCER: Four different Utah Valley players scored goals as the Wolverines' rolled to a 5-1 victory over Howard University on Wednesday. The five goals are the most scored by a UVSC team in more than a year.

Westminster

VOLLEYBALL: At Helena, Mont., after dropping the first game against Carroll College, Westminster bounced back to win 3 straight games. Scores were: 21-30, 30-17, 30-24, 30-15. The win moved the Griffins to 10-5 on the season and 3-1 in the Frontier Conference. Westminster concludes its road trip with a 2 p.m. match today against Rocky Mountain College in Billings

SOCCER: The Griffins defeated Regis University 4-2 on Thursday in Denver for its eighth-straight win. Dave Rogers scored twice for Westminster. Griffin keeper Kimball Parker recorded three saves.
