Storm brings snow, freezing weather

Utah saw its first snow of the season Sunday night when a Pacific storm dumped a few inches of the white stuff in higher elevations.

Brighton Resort reported 4 inches of snow, 6 inches fell at Alta Ski Area and 8 inches fell atop Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort's 11,000-foot Hidden Peak.

Not all local ski areas reported measurements to the National Weather Services because the resorts are not open and personnel are not yet monitoring snowfall.

The NWS forecast for Monday night and this morning called for freezing temperatures in most of the western half of the state and higher elevations. Residents were advised to protect their outdoor plants from frost.

The cold, dry weather is expected to move out by the middle of the week. Temperatures are expected to increase with highs in the 70s.

On Monday, Brigham City, Coalville, Provo and the Utah Test Range in Tooele County set or tied daily records for low temperatures. They reached 53, 50, 58 and 57 degrees, respectively.
