KANAB — "Cowboy" Ted Hallisey withdrew his candidacy for Kanab City Council on Monday, saying he and his wife decided his spare time should be reserved for his family and career.

Hallisey also said, in a press release, that he wants to put more energy into his national charity, the Cowboy Ted Foundation for Kids. He hadn't realized how much time the campaign would take, he said.

Hallisey was one of six candidates running for three available four-year seats. Two of the six, Steve Mower and Anton Chatterly, are incumbents. The other candidates are Nina Laycock, Ruthie Itow and Sky Chaney.

Hallisey is the director of the Kane County Office of Tourism. He also serves on many advisory boards and boards of directors, he said.

"My total focus needs to be directed toward my two small children and my wife as the foundation of my only real and true core support group," he said. "Perhaps I will run for elective office during another time in my life."

Money donated to the Hallisey campaign will be returned to donors, and none of it has been spent, he said.
