Temple Square music programs set

Eight concerts and five performances are scheduled for October's Temple Square musical offerings in the Tabernacle, the Assembly Hall and the Conference Center Theater.

All events begin at 7:30 p.m., except Conference Center performances, which begin at 7 p.m. Performances are free and limited to those aged 8 and older.

The schedule is as follows:

• Oct. 9-13: "Our Story Goes On," a musical program featuring 25 cast members from the Nauvoo Pageant performing Broadway, popular and American folk songs in the Conference Center Theater. Tickets are required. Call 570-0080 or go to www.lds.org/events for free tickets.

• Oct. 12: Organist Jan Kraybill, principal organist and director of music at the Community of Christ International Headquarters, Independence, Mo., will play in the Tabernacle Franck's "Piece Heroique," Buxtehude's "Prelude and Fugue in D Major," Bach's "Passacaglia and Fugue," "Bolcum's "Gospel Prelude on What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and Jongen's "Sonata Eroica ."

• Oct. 13: The Utah Allstate Choir of outstanding high school singers will perform in the Tabernacle under the direction of Ann Howard Jones. Jones is a professor of music and director of choral activities at Boston University. This concert is the Grand Festival Concert sponsored by the Utah Music Educators Association. Weber State University Concert Choir will be featured. Tickets are required. Call 570-0080 or go online to www.lds.org/events for free tickets.

• Oct. 19: The Orchestra of Sandy, conducted by Joel Rosenberg, will perform Wagner's arrangements in the Assembly Hall including: "Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin," the "Allegro Vivace," "Andante Cantabile," "Minuetto," finale from Mozart's "Symphony No. 41 in C Major," the "Marche au supplice" and "Songe d'une nuit du Sabbat" from Berlioz' "Symphonie Fantastique."

• Oct. 20: The Wasatch Chorale, conducted by Dyanne Riley, will sing in the Assembly Hall a 2007 Americana Concert featuring the music of Randall Thompson, with piano and organ accompaniment by Larry Blackburn.

• Oct. 26: The Relief Society Music Festival will be presented in the Assembly Hall to showcase several works of distinction from the annual LDS Church music submission. Eleven works with words or music or new arrangements by LDS women from Arizona, California, Maryland, Oklahoma and Utah will be sung by Relief Society members from Layton and Kaysville, conducted by Jane R. Fjeldsted.

• Oct. 26-27: Sisters, violinist Peggy Wheelwright and pianist Reesa James, will present a "Families Making Music" concert in the Assembly Hall performing a varied program of popular, concert and inspiration pieces. Wheelwright of Ogden, does extensive backup for major vocalists and motion picture recording work. James, a Juilliard-trained pianist, teaches music in Lincoln, Neb.
