• Desert Star Playhouse, 4861 S. State, Murray, on Sept. 29, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., for its upcoming production of "The Grinch," scheduled to play during the Christmas season.
All roles are open for adult actors of all ages. Auditions are by appointment only (266-2600). Come prepared with a one-minute comic monologue and 16 bars of an upbeat song. Bring your own sheet music. An accompanist will be provided (no minus tracks or a cappella singing). There will also be cold readings from the script.
Needed are males and females, 18 years of age and up, who must be able to do comedy, be strong singers and with some dance experience preferred. All actors hired will be paid.
• West Jordan Theater Arts, Oct. 2 and 3, 6:30-9 p.m., at West Jordan City Hall, 8000 S. Redwood Road, for "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever." All roles are open for adults, 25-70 years of age, and children, 6-15. There will be cold readings from the script. Callbacks will be held on Oct. 4 at the Sugar Factory Playhouse, where performances will be Nov. 29-Dec. 15 (Arlene or Ros at City Hall, 569-5100; Pat at 566-5586).
• Off Broadway Theatre, 272 S. Main, on Oct. 3, 7 p.m., for "Scrooge's Christmas Carol," written and directed by Eric Jensen. This parody of Charles Dickens' classic tale is a fund-raiser for the theater. All roles are voluntary. The production will help raise funds for the theater's 2008 season.
Roles are open for all performers, ages 8-60, for roles that include Scrooge, Dickens, Cratchit, Tiny Tim, Past, Present, Future, Turkey Boy, Belle, Young Scrooge, Young Belle and village people.
Play dates are Nov. 23-Dec. 29 (355-4628).
• The SCERA Center, 745 S. State, Orem, on Oct. 4, 7-9 p.m., for its Christmas production of "Plaid Tidings," a holiday edition of "Forever Plaid." Needed are men, 20 years of age and older. Come prepared to sing 16 measures of an upbeat 1950s harmony song, if possible. An accompanist and boom box will be provided.
Six to eight female dancers are also needed for this show. Dancing auditions will be held 9-10 p.m. Women, 18 and up, should come prepared to perform a short, Broadway style dance segment.
