Jeffs, who is charged with two first-degree felony counts of rape as an accomplice, listened quietly to the witnesses. At the beginning of court on Tuesday, a bailiff reminded those attending that anyone trying to make contact with a witness or Jeffs would be escorted out of the courtroom and not allowed back in. The only disruptions in the court over the past two days came from attorneys who forgot to turn off their cell phones and had to hand them over to a bailiff when they rang.

Washington County prosecutors rested their case less than an hour into the morning's session. From a list of 17 potential witnesses, the prosecution called three people including the woman who is accusing Jeffs of being an accomplice to rape.

The woman, now 21, was married at the age of 14 to her 19-year-old first cousin. Jeffs officiated at the wedding, which was arranged by the woman's stepfather, Fred Jessop.

Prosecutors asked each female defense witness if their circumstances were similar to those experienced by the woman they call "Jane Doe."

The defense is expected to continue bringing witnesses to the stand on Wednesday. The trial is scheduled through Friday.
