Samantha Sumsion

Springville Red Devils

Sport: Volleyball

Class: Senior

Position: Outside hitter

The numbers: She's the Red Devils' most consistent hitter, says her coach Wade Taylor, who also notes, "She's a very intelligent hitter who knows how to get around blocks." Sumsion typically downs a lot of kills for the Red Devils and hits for a high percentage. Sumsion had 11 kills and two aces to lead her team in a three-game match over Timpview this week after pounding down 18 kills and seven blocks in two wins last week. She's a big reason everyone in Region 7 fears Springville heading into league action.

Jake Murphy

American Fork Cavemen

Sport: Football

Class: Senior

Position: Receiver/safety

The numbers: Even though the Cavemen lost to one of the nation's top teams, Murphy certainly gained some attention in Southern California. In the game against Mater Dei last weekend he scored all five of American Fork's touchdowns. The first was a 77-yard TD reception. The second was a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown. The final three were again pass receptions - one from 35 yards, another from 28 yards and one from 15 yards. For the season Murphy now has eight TD catches.
