VOLLEYBALL: The Utah women's volleyball team fell to UNLV, 3-1, on Saturday in its second Mountain West Conference match of the season. The Utes (2-7, 0-2 MWC) were led by Kathryn Haynie's 18 kills and 14 digs. Utah returns to action on Friday against Colorado State.

CROSS COUNTRY: Arizona hosted the Dave Murray Invitational on Friday in Tucson, but the No. 19 BYU men's cross country team battled the heat and came out on top.
The Cougars (35) beat Arizona State (42), Paradise Valley Community College (125), Central Arizona (141) and Arizona (144), despite the 100-degree heat. BYU junior Stephan Shay finished first among the college runners, in 18:09.48. The Cougars' next race will be on Sep. 28, in South Bend, Ind., at the Notre Dame Invitational.
VOLLEYBALL: The BYU women's volleyball team became just the fourth program in NCAA history to record 1,000 wins. BYU's landmark victory came at San Diego State Saturday night. UCLA, Nebraska and Missouri State are as the only other programs to reach the 1,000-win mark.
GOLF: At Albuquerque, N.M., BYU tied for 13th at the William H. Tucker Championship, with sophomore Nick Killpack leading all Cougars at 6-over-par, tied for 26th place. The Cougars next tournament will be the Husky Invitational in Bremerton, Wash., on Oct. 1-2.
Utah State
SOCCER: Utah State plays its third match this week as it hosts Idaho State today at noon. The Aggies are 2-4 after falling to Oregon, 2-1, on Friday. ISU defeated Boise State, 5-2, Friday and Idaho, 2-0, Sunday.
CROSS COUNTRY: Utah State senior Amy Egan led the women's team to a first-place finish at the Montana State Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Junior Seth Wold finished in second-place to lead the Aggie men to a third-place overall finish.
VOLLEYBALL: Amanda Nielson led a trio of Aggies with double-digit kills as Utah State recorded a four-game win (30-27, 30-25, 17-30, 30-27) against San Jose State in Logan Saturday night. Utah State improves to 2-0 in the Western Athletic Conference and 5-6 on the season with the win
Weber State
VOLLEYBALL: The Weber State volleyball team fell 3-0 Saturday at Portland State, dropping their first conference match. The Vikings won 30-28, 30-20, 30-17. Weber State
(4-5, 1-1) will return home Tuesday to take on nationally ranked BYU at 7 p.m. at the Swenson Gym.
