The 6-4, 180-pound Walden allowed a single to Retherford leading off the game, but escaped trouble when Sanchez rapped into a double play. Paiml slapped a two-out single in the third, but Retherford fanned to end the frame.

Poreda wasn't as overpowering as his counterpart, but he was no less effective. The 6-6 lefty from the University of San Francisco struck out four and induced several popups through four innings. The first-round draft choice in the 2007 draft struck out six and allowed four singles in six innings.

There was more heated drama in the eighth, as White Sox hitter Andrew Mead was caught looking at strike three after he stepped out of the box on a 2-2 pitch. Mead had asked for time as Walden was starting his delivery, and home plate umpire Kyle Byrne did not grant it.

Byrne rang him up, much to Mead's displeasure. The Sox outfielder slammed his bat to the ground and argued for a few moments before the umpire tossed him out of the game.

Byrne also ejected White Sox catcher John Curtis after the Great Falls receiver showed displeasure with the strike zone a few pitches after Brossman's homer.

Great Falls had the league's best record during the regular season (51-24), while Orem finished under .500 at 37-39. The championship was the third for the Owlz franchise, affiliated with the Angels, in the last four years.
