Hale Centre Theatre, West Valley City, on Sept. 22, by appointment only (984-9000) for "A Christmas Carol."

Audition sessions will be 9-11 a.m. for children and teens, 5-17 years of age, and 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. for adults, 18 and over. All roles are open except for Scrooge. Needed are men and women, with many roles for children and youths. All must come prepared with one verse of a Christmas song. An accompanist will be provided (no taped music). There will also be reading of selected lines from the script. Authentic British or Cockney accents are needed. Scene readings will take place at the callbacks.

John J. Sweeney is directing. Bring a current photograph and resume. All cast members will be paid. For character descriptions, selected lines from the show and an audition packet, go to www.halecentretheatre.org.

Plan-B Theatre Company on Sept. 24, 7:30-9 p.m., for its first "Student Slam" project, open to all students, 14-19 years of age, from any area school.

The company is not looking for any specific genders or types — just 25 students. On Wednesday, Jan. 2, those selected will be involved in creating, rehearsing and performing five 10-minute plays in a 24-hour period.

Professional playwrights, designers and directors will helm the project. These auditions are by appointment only (call Colleen Lewis at 654-1690 or go to theatreartsconservatory.com).

Midway Foundation for the Arts, on Sept. 29, 9 a.m.-noon, and Oct. 2, 6-9 p.m., for "A Christmas Carol: the Broadway Musical" in the building just west of Midway Town Hall. These auditions are by appointment only (phone Susan Waldrip at 435-657-2026 or e-mail midwayfa@gmail.com; include name and phone number).

There are roles for singers and dancers of all ages, including some children, 8 and up, and some character roles. Come prepared to sing 16 bars of a Broadway show tune. An accompanist will be provided. Rehearsals begin Oct. 6 and performances are Dec. 21-29.

Heritage Theatre, 2505 S. Highway 89, Perry, on Oct. 2 and 4, 6-8 p.m., for the stage version of "Cheaper by the Dozen," a family comedy about the true-life Frank Gilbreth family. Mac Edwards is directing.

There will be cold readings from the script. There are roles for three women and two men, 30-50 years of age, and several youths and children, 17 and under. The play, which is not a musical, is based on the 1946 novel and the 1950 film — not the 2003 film, which used the same title but not the original script.

Callbacks will be Oct. 6. Play dates are Jan. 18-Feb. 9.
