A Sandy man accused of sexually abusing a 6-year-old boy and trafficking in child pornography has struck a plea deal with prosecutors.
Jeffrey David Burton, 30, pleaded guilty to first-degree felony sodomy on a child and sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony. The deal was reached during a court appearance Aug. 10 in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court.
In charging documents, police said they were tipped off by an anonymous caller who read an April 29 Deseret Morning News story about Internet sex predators and the work of the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
"The caller also stated that Burton said that he is chatting with an underage male through the Internet and that it may lead to some (form) of sexual relationship," ICAC agent Rhett McQuiston wrote in a probable cause statement filed with the charges.
Burton is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 26.
