Winner: Kudos to the Utah High School Activities Association for standing firm on its punishments against boys soccer programs at Bonneville, Jordan and Park City high schools. Each case involved unsportsmanlike conduct, including the abuse of referees, making obscene gestures and taunting the opponent's crowd. Some involved bad behavior from parents. In each case, administrators appealed. But the association voted this week to uphold nearly all the punishments, sending a clear message that high school sports is about more than the final score.
Loser: Airlines keep promising to get better, but the news just seems to get worse. The Transportation Department said this week that complaints from travelers reached a seven-year high in July. The chief problems are flight cancellations and that time-honored favorite, lost luggage. United said it is starting a goal of delivering luggage within 25 minutes of arrival. American is refiguring flight times to avoid delays.
We'll believe it when we see it. Meanwhile, a Passengers' Bill of Rights bill should be gaining momentum in Congress.
