SCIPIO, Millard County The Lowry fire burning in Millard County grew to 2,890 acres Sunday after winds pushed it past containment lines on its south end.
The fire was started Aug. 20 by lightning, according to fire information officer Sherie Taylor. It is burning pinyon pines, juniper, oak brush and grass about 6 miles east of Scipio.
The fire was thought to be 100 percent contained about a week after it started.
Taylor said in a press release that fire danger in the area is extremely high. She asked Labor Day weekend vacationers to use extreme caution while outdoors.
