House Speaker Curtis said the county's efforts are paying off, "Legislators are understanding county issues more."
He dismissed talks of a rift with the county, saying such spats are normal in politics.
"Legislators get frustrated sometimes on individual specific issues, but if you're going to be successful as a legislator you learn to get past it very quickly," Curtis said. "I just don't see it as a big rift."
The county's lobbyist agreed. He said both sides will have their disagreements, but ultimately it is to the benefit of both the county and the Legislature to work together.
"There is no question that there were people that have been very disappointed in Salt Lake County and some of the positions they've taken," Stokes said. "It hasn't been easy. Relationships have been strained, and working for Salt Lake County this past session was a difficult task.
"But in the end, you've got a bunch of adults trying to figure out solutions and work through it. It's a give and take. One day you're hated, the next day you're loved."
"But again, it's sometimes an interesting relationship. I don't always understand it, but we want to work well together."
