Ex-Aggie is guilty of assault

LOGAN — Former Utah State University quarterback Jerod Walker pleaded guilty Monday to sexual assault and sexual battery.

Walker, 20, was charged with aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony.

But in an agreement with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty in 1st District Court to sexual assault as a third-degree felony and to sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor.

A USU sophomore accused Walker of raping her in his dormitory room on April 9, 2006. About 10 days later, he was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana while he was out on bail for the sexual assault.

The drug charge was dropped as part of the plea agreement. But Walker, who lives in Texas, still faces similar drug charges there, according to Barbara Lachmar, deputy Cache County attorney.

Coach Brent Guy kicked Walker off the team after the second arrest. Walker started at quarterback the last two games of the 2005 season.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 19. Walker faces up to five years in prison for sexual assault and up to one year in jail for sexual battery.
