SCIPIO, Millard County — Firefighters will begin demobilizing today from a wildfire burning in central Utah.

The Lowry's Fire is now nearly 90 percent contained, the Richfield Interagency Fire Center said. It has burned 2,870 acres of pinyon juniper, oak brush and grassland about 6 miles east of Scipio near the town of Fayette, Sanpete County.

Firefighters say lines carved with bulldozers and by hand have managed to keep the fire in check. The blaze was started by lightning on Aug. 20.
