Those deer hunters who haven't purchased a 2007 permit won't be hunting this year. The last of the permits were sold on Tuesday.

This is four weeks earlier than last year and nearly two months before the general deer hunt.

Judi Tutorow, wildlife licensing coordinator for the Division of Wildlife Resources, noted that there are still 14,000 general season elk permits available — about 7,000 spite only and 7,000 any bull permits.

Also, there is an unlimited number of archery elk permits. The season opens Thursday.

Elk permits are available at the DWR's Web site — www.wildlife.utah.gov — or from more than 350 license agents across Utah and at any DWR office.

For more information call the nearest DWR office or the main office at 801-538-4700.
