Two Utah wildfires had consumed more than four square miles of timber, grass and brush by Tuesday evening.
The Lowry fire raged in Millard County, just 30 miles north of where the Milford Flat fire burned 363,000 acres in July. The Lowry fire started Monday and had burned 1,500 acres about six miles east of Scipio by Tuesday evening. It was started by lightning, said Bureau of Land Management fire information officer Jill Ivie.
Tuesday afternoon, two crews, one bulldozer and four fire engines were working the blaze, which was not yet contained. The fire was burning northeast toward Sanpete County but was not threatening any structures.
In Box Elder County, 36 miles west of Snowville, another fire had burned about 1,200 acres by Tuesday night. The fire was started by lightning Aug. 17, according to the BLM. It was 40 percent contained by Tuesday.
So far this summer, fires have destroyed more than 725,000 acres of state, federal and private lands in Utah.
