Bud Mahas (Readers' Forum, Aug. 19) perpetuates an unfortunate and false stereotype of home-schoolers: that we do not value social interaction. As the parent of four older public-schooled and three younger home-schooled children, I can state that my home-schooled children have had, generally speaking, higher value opportunities than my public-schooled children. Some of my older children still bear emotional scars from their public school social experiences. The only downside I've seen to the home-school social scene is that its geographic range is much larger, requiring a greater investment in parental energy and transportation which my wife and I gladly make.
