I am grateful for Rep. Jim Matheson's courage on his vote to help pass the State Children's Health Insurance Program. His support for SCHIP shows that the continued health and welfare of children and Medicare patients are more important than "big tobacco" and "big insurance." To fund the bill, the legislation will raise the federal cigarette tax by 45 cents a pack. When Congress returns, the Senate and House will agree on a single bill. Rep. Matheson's continued support will be critical.
