PROVO Provo has lowered all flags to half-staff on city-owned facilities, including Provo's Freedom Flag at the south entrance to the city on I-15, to honor the men who died Thursday while trying to rescue six other trapped miners at the Crandall Canyon Mine in Emery County.
Provo officials have also issued an invitation for residents and businesses to join the city in lowering their flags as well.
City flags will stay at half-staff at least until Monday evening.
Provo Mayor Lewis K. Billings is asking all Provo residents and members of clergy to remember the fallen miners, the injured miners, the miners yet lost and all of their families, in religious meetings this weekend.
The city has sent formal letters offering its support to Huntington Mayor Hilary Gordon and Price Mayor Joe Piccolo.
