Charles Abouo, one of the state's most athletic basketball players, will sign a letter of intent to play at BYU in November.
Abouo, a 6-4 all-state performer at Logan High School, is a native of the Ivory Coast and prepped in Logan where he set seven school records including the all-time leading scoring mark. He will attend a prep school in the eastern United States this year before enrolling at BYU for the 2008-09 season.
Logan High coach Jeff Brimhall told the Logan Herald Journal, Abouo's work ethic has put him in a position to play Division I. He averaged 21.7 points a game this past year at LHS.
"It's exciting to me, probably mostly because I know what Charles has put into it," Brimhall said. "That makes it more special for me because he's a special young man, and he's put a lot of time into it and he's had to battle a lot of adversity.
Abouo received offers from Montana, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Loyola (Chicago) and Weber State with interest from San Diego State and Virginia Commonwealth.
