Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. called an emergency cabinet meeting this morning to coordinate efforts to respond to the mining tragedy in Huntington.
The governor met with his labor, public safety, human services, natural resources, transportation, health and workforce services to discuss providing aid for the miners' families.
"We need to come together as a community through the duration of this tragedy and beyond. We must buoy up those who are anxiously awaiting the return of their loved ones and those who are desperately trying to find them," Huntsman said in a statement today. "Today we are all part of the mining community."
The governor is travelling to Huntington again today to meet with the families of the miners and the assistant secretary of the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration. He is expected to hold a news conference this evening.
