Man sought in Ogden wedding party slayings

Ogden police want to talk to a man considered a "person of interest" in a shooting at a wedding party.

Police said Monday they are looking for Riqo Perea, 19, in connection with Sunday's shooting that left two people dead and two others wounded.

"He was amongst a group of people we're looking at who knows what occurred," Ogden Police Lt. Tony Fox said. "We need to get a story from him and see what he knows."

Asked if Perea was believed to have been involved in the shooting, police refused to say. Perea is also wanted on warrants for alcohol violations and attempted possession of a weapon by a restricted person.

The shooting happened Sunday at a home on the 700 block of Madison Avenue. Police said a man showed up in a maroon sport utility vehicle and opened fire on the crowd of about 30 people. Four people were hit.

Sabrina Prieto, 22, and Resendo Nava Nevarez, 29, were killed. Two others were hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

Police believe the shooting may be part of a larger feud playing out on Ogden's streets between rival Latino gangs.

"We believe it's gang-related," Fox said. "There was a disturbance earlier that day at the wedding. At this after party, some individuals showed up and they belonged to rival gangs."

Detectives are also investigating whether the shooting of a 28-year-old man who was found on a roadside early Monday morning is connected to Sunday's shooting.

About 3:30 a.m., a security guard came upon the man in the 2800 block of Commerce Way.

"He was dumped," Ogden Police Lt. Scott Sangberg said. "I imagine they dumped him to die, and he didn't."

The man was shot seven or eight times, police said. He was last reported to be in critical condition at Ogden's McKay-Dee Hospital. Detectives hoped to question the man once he was out of surgery.

"He wasn't hit in any place that was a major organ," Sangberg said.
