ROOSEVELT — A 60-year-old Colorado man was killed Monday morning when he struck a deer with his motorcycle.

David Rowe of Monte Vista, Colo., was driving north on state Route 191 near Steinaker State Park, according to a Utah Highway Patrol accident report, when a deer stepped onto the roadway. Rowe collided with the deer and crashed his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

Monday's crash was the second motorcycle accident on S.R. 191 in four days. On Friday, 43-year-old John Edward Lyon of Rock Springs, Wyo., suffered head and rib injuries when he lost control of his motorcycle on the twisting mountain road north of Vernal.

Lyon was not wearing a helmet either. He was flown to University of Utah Medical Center, where he remained in the intensive care unit Tuesday in critical condition.
