Whether she's riding an elephant in Nepal, standing under a rain forest canopy in Puerto Rico or touring Stenige Castle in Sweden, Marta Amundson finds inspiration for quilts.
Fifteen of her works are currently on display in the Brigham City Museum-Gallery's Quilt Festival, which runs through Aug. 11.
Amundson, a resident of Riverton, Wyo., is the featured artist in the show, which also exhibits work of northern Utah quilters.
In 2001, Amundson won the grand prize in the American Folk Art Museum International Competition in New York. The quilt, "Stockholm Door Prize," toured the United States and Europe for three years with a "Viking Voyage of Discovery" show.
Before turning to quilting, Amundson produced stained glass for public buildings, and she credits the look of many of her quilts to her knowledge of the impact of light coming through glass. A quilt, she has said, "is just a stained glass window that won't break."
The Brigham City Museum is located at 24 N. 300 West, and is open Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call 435-723-6769.
