WASHINGTON TERRACE Weber County sheriff's deputies say they arrested a man after discovering bombmaking materials in his home.
Deputies said the man's brother was visiting him July 13 and saw a pipe with two CO2 cartridges wrapped around it.
Police evacuated the neighborhood for a brief time while bomb technicians took a look at it.
"They discerned that it was not functional. It did not have any powder," Weber County Sheriff's Capt. Klint Anderson said.
A subsequent search of the man's home did find other materials that could be used to make a bomb, deputies said.
"We don't have any information to indicate he was targeting anyone or anything or that he was going to make a bomb," Anderson said.
Cody Wirick, 32, was booked into the Weber County Jail on investigation of possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and possession of explosives.
