OGDEN (AP) A man stole 58 bronze vases from a cemetery and sold many of them to a scrap recycler, Weber County officials said.
Angel Luna, 39, pleaded guilty this week to third-degree felony theft.
"One of the sacred things people have are cemetery plots, so this has to be disconcerting," said Sandra Corp, a Weber County prosecutor. "But usually you can't completely secure a cemetery."
More than 30 vases have been recovered from a scrap pile at a local recycler. Luna must repay the recycler about $500 and pay as much as $200 for each vase not returned to Myers Evergreen Memorial Park.
Luna was arrested June 12 after customers at Bloom Recyclers wrote down his license plate after reading about the vase thefts.
