The Utah Transit Authority has decided that a bus, trolley, or light-rail system are the best three options for a possible mass-transit route to Sugar House.

The agency unveiled the options Thursday at a public open house at the Sprague Library. The three alternatives were narrowed from a list of a dozen possible transit modes. This fall, UTA plans to announce which of the three it would prefer to build, but actual construction may not be for 20-25 years. "At this point, this is a preliminary study to identify what the best transit option for the area would be," UTA spokesman Chad Saley said. "There are no plans for construction."

A transit route to Sugar House could run between 221 West and 1100 East, and from 2250 South to 1700 South. There is an abandoned rail line at about 2200 South in the area.

Residents are invited to submit comment about which option they would prefer to be built in the area by going to the Web at: rideuta.com/projects/sugarhouseTransitStudy. Both South Salt Lake and Salt Lake City are participating in the study with UTA.
