LEHI It will be a successful investor against a young student in Sunday's 36-hole match for the Utah State Amateur Golf Championship.
Draper resident Scott Clark, 34, will battle it out at The Golf Club at Thanksgiving Point with 23-year-old Utah Valley State junior Nick Nelson after both survived two matches on Saturday.
Clark made it through what most felt was the toughest bracket by first beating Dan Horner in the quarterfinals on the 20th hole, and then taking care of BYU sophomore Robbie Fillmore in the semifinals 4 and 3.
Nelson, who prepped at Lone Peak High, needed an 18-foot par putt on the final green to win his quarterfinal match over Brady Stanger.
His semifinal win over Utah Ute Chris Gresh came on a 10-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole.
The first 18 holes on Sunday begins at 7:30 a.m., with the final 18 holes of match play set for 12:30 p.m. This is Nelson's first time playing in the State Am. Clark has advanced to match play in each of the past five years, but this is the first year that he's made it past the second round.
