WEST VALLEY CITY The National Night Out event has been scheduled for Aug. 6 and 7, West Valley City officials announced Tuesday.
The event is intended to heighten awareness of drug and crime prevention, generate support for anti-crime programs and strengthen community spirit.
National Night Out, now in its 25th year, is a campaign sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Cities across the country will participate.
The West Valley City event will begin Monday, Aug. 6 with a kick-off event that will include a free concert by American Jazz at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 W. 3100 South. On Tuesday, Aug. 7, neighborhoods will gather for block parties. Later in August, the city will host a police fair, a community resource fair, mobile patrol training and a child safety fair.
For more information or to register a neighborhood for a block party, visit www.wvc-ut.gov or contact Craig Thomas at 801-963-3285.
