The winners and the losers

• Winner: The good news is that fewer American teens are engaging in premarital sex, at least according to a study in which teens reported on themselves. Also, more kids are finishing high school, and more parents are reading to their little children.

• Loser: While we're on the subject of children, a new study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition says 55 percent of American kids are suffering from a vitamin D deficiency — a figure that rises to 68 percent in the winter. The main reason seems to be a lack of outdoor activities, which also relates to obesity and other health problems.

In other words, get off the computer and go play.
