The group Great Salt Lakekeeper will sponsor a canoe float parade on July 24 and three free guided canoe tours on the Jordan River in July and August. The tours will include instruction about the ecology of the river and issues facing its health and function.
People are invited to decorate and float canoes in the parade along the river through the Poplar Grove Community from 1700 South to 300 South. The event is free, and participants can bring their own canoes or use ones provided by Great Salt Lakekeeper.
Canoe decorating will take place from 7 to 9 a.m. in the Raging Waters parking lot, and the parade will go from 9 a.m. to noon. No tall-masted boats will be allowed.
The tours are scheduled for July 17, Aug. 1 and Aug. 14. All tours start at 5:30 p.m. at the Raging Waters parking lot at 1200 West and 1700 South. All ages are welcome, and advance registration is required. Canoes, paddles and life jackets will be provided.
To register and for more information, call Jeff Salt at 485-2550.
