In 2005, CNA Jesus Partida confessed to sexually abusing 10 women at the American Fork Heritage Care Center. He later recanted his confession but was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to prison last January.

Sex offenders, Diviney said, often profile the elderly and other vulnerable adults. "They really think their crimes through. ... Sex offenders seek power and control, so vulnerable adults make very easy targets."

According to St. Joseph administrator Galen Ewer, the events surrounding the alleged July 1 rape of one of his residents are unclear. "She has a roommate that indicated she was not aware anything happened," he said. Although the victim reported she was raped at 8 p.m., when a nurse administered medication to her an hour later the woman didn't mention the incident, he said.

Ewer also said that "the medical report (on the woman) we got back from St. Mark's Hospital did not give us any indication of an incident occurring." The police report, however, said that an examination of the woman found vaginal "abrasions and lacerations."
