LEHI Former Weber State golfer Greg Buckway shot a blistering 6-under par 66 Wednesday afternoon to take the first-round lead in the medalist portion of the 109th Utah State Amateur Golf Championship.
One shot behind is last year's medalist Michael McRae, who fired a 5-under 67 Wednesday morning. Tied for third at 69 are Jeremy Richmond and Jon Linnett. Carl Jensen, Dustin Pimm and Scott Clark each posted a 70 to grab a share of the fifth position.
In total Wednesday, 17 players broke par and another 14 shot even par.
Those at 71 are Kirk Siddens, Robert McRae, Rick Lloyd, Nick Nelson, Zack Blair, Steve Borget, McCoy Willey, Paul Winterowd, Jeff Kitches and Derek Squire. At 72 are Tommy Sharp, Nathan Page, Dan Horner, Clay Bingham, John Comish, Steve Poulson, Todd Francis, Dustin Robinson, Matt McArthur, Jason Wight, Kevin Peterson, Kelly Peterson, Dan Bloechel and Tim Hawkins.
Following Thursday's second medal round, the low 32 advance to match play, which begins Friday and concludes Sunday with a 36-hole final.
