West Valley firefighters check the remains of a residence that burned after a fire started inside the garage and spread into the adjoining house, causing about $70,000 damage Sunday. West Valley Fire Capt. Craig Jeppson said the fire at 3750 S. 5600 West was reported at about 4 p.m. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 20 minutes but remained on the scene for several hours dousing hot spots and mopping up. Jeppson estimated the damage to the garage and contents at $40,000 and $30,000 to the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
