Board revokes Allgier's parole

It's sort of a given, but any chance of parole for accused cop killer Curtis Allgier is now gone.

The Board of Pardons and Parole officially canceled a hearing scheduled later this month to decide what to do with Allgier on the latest parole violation that led to his incarceration. He was also scheduled to begin serving a nine-year federal prison sentence for illegally possessing a weapon.

"His parole is revoked," parole board spokesman Jim Hatch said Friday. "We're going to wait and see what happens with the new charges until we do anything else with him."

Allgier, 27, is facing a long list of new charges, including aggravated murder, aggravated escape, attempted murder and robbery in the death of corrections officer Stephen Anderson.

Police said the prison inmate was undergoing an MRI at the University of Utah's Orthopaedic Center on June 25 when he told Anderson that he was escaping. During a struggle, charging documents said Allgier took the officer's gun and shot him twice — first in the chest and then in the head.

Allgier then fled from the clinic and carjacked an SUV, leading police on a chase across the Salt Lake Valley during morning rush-hour traffic. It ended when he bailed out of the car at an Arby's restaurant on Redwood Road.

Inside, police said, Allgier grabbed a restaurant employee and put a gun to his head. As the man struggled to get away, Allgier fired — just missing him. Prosecutors said Allgier then beat the man with a pistol.

It was then that Eric Fullerton, a retired Army paratrooper, fought with Allgier and had his throat slashed with a kitchen knife. Fullerton, 59, managed to disarm the inmate, who was found by police hiding in an office in the restaurant.

Parole board officials said no new hearings will be scheduled for Allgier.

"We're not going to hold a hearing on him until after the murder charge and the others are adjudicated in court," Hatch said.
