WASHINGTON Carlos Zambrano won his third consecutive start to make a final push for an All-Star spot to help the Chicago Cubs defeat the Washington Nationals 3-1 Tuesday night.
Alfonso Soriano again hurt his former team with two hits and two runs scored.
Zambrano is one of five pitchers on the list for the final spot on the National League All-Star team. He didn't have much trouble against the Nationals, allowing one run and three hits. He struck out eight and walked four in 6 2/3 innings.
Zambrano (10-6) tied Milwaukee's Ben Sheets and Los Angeles' Brad Penny for most wins in the National League.

ROCKIES 11, METS 3: At Denver, Former Met Kaz Matsui had a career-high five hits and Ryan Spilborghs hit his first grand slam to lead the Colorado Rockies. Garrett Atkins added a two-run home run and had three RBIs for the Rockies, while Matt Holliday had two hits and two RBIs.
REDS 7, GIANTS 3: At Cincinnati, Barry Bonds hit homer No. 751 to move with four of Hank Aaron's career record. Brandon Phillips' grand slam gave Pete Mackanin a victory in his debut as the Reds' interim manager. Mackanin was promoted from advance scout after baseball's worst team fired Jerry Narron on Sunday night. Bonds hit a two-run homer on his third swing of the game, his second career homer off Aaron Harang (9-2).
PIRATES 6, BREWERS 2: At Pittsburgh, Shane Youman gave up two runs over six innings to earn his first major league win and Pittsburgh took advantage of a season-high four errors by Milwaukee for the win. Youman (1-0) allowed eight hits in his first start of the season. Ryan Braun had an RBI single in the first and Kevin Mench led off the fourth with his fourth homer for Milwaukee.
DIAMONDBACKS 7, CARDINALS 1: At St. Louis, stand-in starter Yusmeiro Petit pitched into the sixth inning in place of injured Randy Johnson and Arizona backed him with three home runs. Chris Young, Chad Tracy and Mark Reynolds connected for the Diamondbacks, who ended a three-game losing streak and silenced a team that had scored 11 runs each of its last two games.
DODGERS 7, BRAVES 6: At Los Angeles, Wilson Betemit was 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs against his former team, and Matt Kemp singled home the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. With one out in the seventh, Jeff Kent legged out a double with a headfirst slide that just beat the throw from center fielder Andruw Jones.
