"He'll travel to be part of the experience, but he's just going to get treatment because we're going to rest it for the next month so he has his best chance moving forward," the Chicago newspaper quoted Bulls general manager John Paxson as saying.

ALUMNI UPDATE: Ex-Jazz shooting guard Andre Owens signed a free-agent summer contract with Indiana and will take part in the Pacers' training camp prepping for the Orlando summer league.

Owens played 23 games for Utah as an NBA rookie during the 2005-06 season, which ended with a leg fracture requiring rod-insertion surgery.

The Indiana high school product was traded to Golden State last summer but spent last season averaging 16.6 points for Anaheim of the D-League.

"Andre Owens is a local," the Associated Press quoted Pistons president Donnie Walsh as saying. "He lives here, and he really played well in (a) tryout last week."

Owens' competition for full-time work in Indiana will include NBA journeymen Kareem Rush and Stephen Graham, who also signed non-guaranteed summer deals.
