Fisher chooses family over job

Instead, he is devoted to his family, loyal to his team, committed to his principles.

So he quit.

That doesn't mean he won't play again. But it does mean he's through with the Jazz. He wanted the decision announced now so the Jazz could make their plans without expecting him to be back.

Fisher said the family will move to a city where all the medical components are there for his daughter, and where he can be by her side.

If the NBA team in that city is interested in his services, he might even play basketball again.

It will take until this afternoon — after Tatum has been examined by doctors — for Fisher to see how treatments have gone. He already knows where his basketball career is going: To the back burner.

"The health of his child is a lot more important than a job," said O'Connor. "This is real life."

A life Fisher has made better for more than just his family.
